Sitting at the carwash waiting for my car to be finished, I happened to glance down at a pile of magazines. San Diego Family Magazine caught my eye. I picked it up, flipped through a few of the pages, and, lo and behold, a sentence in the editorial section read “Would you like to write […]
When I launched my travel writing career in 2014, I was elated to see my name in print for the first time. And while I love getting paid to write stories, the travel perks that come along with my new wanderlust life are quite impressive. Those perks, adding up to thousands upon thousands of dollars, […]
There it was. In my hand, staring back at me. The notification from the California State Board of Registered Nursing—it was time to renew my license. Something I’d been doing for 34 years. As guests of the tourism board, we were […]
American writer Susan Sontag once said, “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” One of the reasons we become travel writers is because we love traveling to anywhere and everywhere. But the cost of everything we’d love to see and experience can be prohibitive. There’s hope though, because savvy travelers know how to […]
For travel writers, marketing and networking are everything. Why? Because as writers, we need to let the world know we’re out there. And finding the right platform for this leads to more travel opportunities and more ways of getting published. A few years ago, I stumbled upon TravMedia—the travel industry’s social media network connecting media […]
