Bonnie is the Creative Director for Great Escape Publishing, a regular contributor to The Right Way to Travel, and creator of the Breakfast Stock Club, which helps folks to get up-and-running selling their photos in online stock photo agencies. She got her first travel articles and photos published after attending the Ultimate Travel Writer's Workshop six summers ago in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Before joining Great Escape Publishing, she taught English in the South of France and vagabonded through South America and South East Asia, dutifully testing all of the local foods and massage techniques.

Don't book a hotel room when you can rent an apartment! It tends to be cheaper, offers more room, and lets you live like a local, with a kitchen and living area. Recently, some friends and I found a cute apartment right in the middle of Paris with a balcony for half the price we would have paid for a hotel room in the city. I like to use Airbnb.com or Vrbo.com to book.
Maybe I’m weird, but I love stuff like this… Patterns… symmetry… texture… doorways. I printed this photo I took in India to hang on my wall, but I would never have printed the original version I brought home on my camera… Whenever you point your lens up at something and your camera is no longer […]
Bonnie here. Truth: I never sold a single photo until AFTER I learned to use Lightroom. Lightroom can turn a dull photo like this… Into something that shines like this: … and now this image sells in my stock agencies! To help you get the same result with your photos, here’s my Lightroom editing tip for […]
I have a secret… I’ve been making money with photography for more than six years, and I still get my exposure wrong sometimes in the field. It happens. Especially when I’m forced to shoot beyond the good light hours. Or when the light changes quickly and I’m not fast enough to adjust my settings. Luckily, […]
The winter holidays are here! This is one of the most photogenic months of the year, so there couldn’t be a better time to keep your camera nearby and create some fun photographs. The next few weeks are sure to slip away quickly with all the hustle and bustle, so let’s make the most of […]
Two weeks ago, we looked at the recent big upgrade to Adobe Lightroom. If you missed that note you can catch up here. With the latest upgrade to Lightroom Classic, Adobe added an awesome new feature, called “Range Masking.” Working with the adjustment brush, graduated filter, and radial filter tools, it gives you very fine-tuned […]
Jordan and I are packing up to live abroad for a couple of months. With a one-way ticket to Buenos Aires, we know where we’re starting… but have no idea where we’ll end up. It’s exciting, and it means we have about a month to get rid of stuff. If you’ve ever “purged” your belongings, […]
Heat waves shimmered in the distance as we trudged up the side of a red sand dune in Namibia. Boyckey plodded along next to me in silence. It was hotter than usual—even for a Namibian. “What is it with tattoos?” he blurted out, gesturing to a European guy covered in designs. “Why do Americans and […]
Recent studies suggest that you can get a huge boost in happiness by increasing your thankfulness. Perfect timing as we’re coming up on the most thankful holiday of the year. Last year, I sent around four days of photos I shot for stock of all the things I’m thankful for. This year I’d like to […]
Science says about 50% of your happiness depends on your genes, 10% on life circumstances… and a whopping 40% is up to you. This week, it’s time to motivate. Let’s take that 40% into our own hands and create something awesome, one small step at a time. Over the course of the week, I’m going […]
