Bonnie knew she never wanted a conventional desk job but she didn’t know exactly what else was out there to do that didn’t involve eight hours in a chair staring at boring spreadsheets. Until, that is, she signed up to attend one of our live events in San Francisco.
Today, in addition to her full-time job here at Great Escape Publishing, she makes over $10,000 a year from her photos. All in her spare time.
Bonnie has a knack for breaking things down into simple language. She loves teaching and if you're with her on a photo expedition trip, she'll make sure you leave with your own saleable photos.
Bonnie here, coming to you this week with some of my favorite ways to make your photos look professional… creative… and all-around gorgeous using Lightroom. Photographers love to debate over the best cameras, lenses, tripods, and computers out there… but Lightroom is the one photographer’s tool that almost all pros agree on and use regularly. […]
When you make the decision to pursue photography, it’s scary and thrilling at the same time. At first, you have so many questions: • Will I be able to do this? • Will people like my photos? • Who am I to think I can suddenly become a photographer? Bonnie, here. I had all of […]
It’s Day One of Portland Summer Photo Camp and the 30 aspiring photographers here with us are smiling. They just got some great news. There’s a revolutionary new way to learn photography that doesn’t involve camera manuals, books or guides. It takes just three days to learn. It’s a lot of fun. And there’s a […]
“If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of better stuff.” Bonnie, here. I always liked this quote by National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson. The idea being, of course, that if you want to take great photos, you have to get out and find interesting things to photograph. It’s snowing outside here […]
The snow was deep and fluffy that day—which came in handy when I fell on my face (more than once). Bonnie, here. I’ve been a downhill skier since I could walk, so trying cross-country skiing for the first time was fun, thrilling, and a complete blow to my ego! When you’re used to being good […]
We all like to look at pretty travel photos in exotic locations. And yes, you should take your camera on your travels. But, by all means, don’t leave it on the shelf when you’re home. The more you shoot at home, the more ready you’ll be to capture all the amazing things that happen abroad. […]
“Buy a house that doesn’t need repairs!” our experienced friend told us. Ha! We laughed. We want a fixer-upper! But maybe my friend was right, because here we are a month later, painting, sanding, building and fixing… and each project seems to be bigger than the last. Our evening wear these days looks like this: […]
Bonnie, here. Yesterday, we sent you an article from Deborah Kolb with this fun holiday photo she took in it: She mentioned that you can make shapes in the background of your image by placing a piece of paper with a shape cut out of it in front of your lens. It sounded easy enough, […]
Imagine that you’re in a room. You have limited time in this room. But you don’t know how long. On the shelves are thousands of things to try. You can try bubble baths or sky diving. Chocolate martinis or heartache. A long career, a stint as a street performer, college, travel, acrobatics, kids, mountain climbing, […]
If you’ve ever taken a class on photography, you’ve likely heard about the Rule of Thirds, leading lines, and framing. These are all important techniques to make your photos look… well… better. But, just last month, I asked nine magazine editors what they want in photos and they said something different. They said what they want […]
