Has your camera been hibernating? Well, good news… spring is finally here!
That means longer days and warmer weather, so why not dig your camera out and create some stock photos to celebrate the new season!
Here are five tips for shooting stock photos with a spring theme:
1.) Be observant. Spring is a time of constant change, so be sure to slow down and notice the little signs of spring happening all around. Maybe the neighborhood café has set up tables outside. Perhaps the tennis nets just went up at a nearby park. Or maybe you can decorate a tasty dish with the first locally-grown greens of the season.
2.) Capture the color. Those first pops of color after a long winter always look especially vibrant. Keep an eye out for new blooms or budding trees to add a splash of color to your photos. You can head to your local garden store, greenhouse, or floral shop to find some fresh subjects as well. Pastel hues are especially fitting for spring.
3. Play with light. Longer days mean more time to experiment with light and shadows, so grab your camera and head outside for some fresh air and inspiration. Springtime usually brings dramatic sunrises and sunsets, often with a rainbow thrown in for good measure!
4. Don’t run from the rain. Puddles, raindrops, and overcast skies can actually mean great conditions for photography. Puddles provide interesting reflections, clouds create nice soft lighting conditions, and rain soaked flowers look lush and beautiful. (Just be sure to add a polarizing filter to your lens to cut the glare.)
Another rainy day option is to grab some brightly-colored rubber boots, an umbrella, and a friend (or friend’s kids) to model.
5. Have fun! Are there any springtime festivals or events happening in your area? They could make for some great photo opportunities! Spring is also a time for gardening, fishing, and outdoor sports to start ramping up. Plan some weekend adventures with friends or family this spring and create some fun images to add to your stock photo collections while you’re out and about!
