Social Media Quick-Start Workshop

SPECIAL INVITATION FOR: Photographers and Travel Writers

1 Day to Social Media Savvy

The Simple, Step-by-Step Formula You Need to
Break Through to Success

Social Media Quick-Start Workshop
With Kristi Dosh

Online · November 14, 2020

Dear Reader,

The one, most powerful thing you can do to accelerate your success today as a photographer or travel writer has nothing to do with creating more beautiful images or writing better stories.

It’s much simpler than that.

“Through social media—you can gain access to people and to opportunities that you’d never be able to walk right up to in the ‘regular’ way.”

– Kristi Dosh

If you like the idea of tourist boards, attractions around the world, restaurants, bars, museums, and more readily inviting you to visit them at no charge

If you would like to have a “digital calling card” for yourself to showcase your work but you don’t have the energy, time, or tech skills to create and maintain a website…

If you’d love to do a better job of building the relationships with editors that can help you land repeat assignments

And if you’d like to gain exposure to new publications where you could sell your stories—but you really don’t like the idea of selling anything…

Then what you need is a social media strategy that can deliver all that directly to you.

And the good news is that it’s a lot easier, faster, and more straightforward to put that strategy in place than you probably think.

You see, most folks assume that to make social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest worthwhile requires some serious tech skills, a huge following, and a big time commitment of hours a day.

But for travel writers and photographers, that’s simply NOT the case.

I’ll explain why in just a moment.

But first, let me introduce myself and give you a little more context here.

Why Writing Stories and Making Photographs
Is Just NOT Enough These Days

My name is Kristi Dosh. I’m a writer and social media expert. You may know me as the creator of the popular course, Social Media Made Easy: The No-Fuss Formula for Success.

I write about travel and sports, I’ve authored a couple of books—and I’m also a recovering attorney.

Social media transformed my career, allowing me to move on from practicing corporate law and turn myself into a successful writer and speaker. Now I can make my own hours, live where I want to live, and control my own destiny.

I started out blogging about the business of sports while I was still working as an attorney, and thanks to social media, I ended up as ESPN’s first—and still only—female sports-business reporter.

I’ve written for Men’s Health, Women’s Day, Parents, Glamour, Golf Digest, and beyond.

These days, I write regularly about travel and effectively get paid to explore new places.

I’ve enjoyed all kinds of perks as a result—from free ski vacations to fine dinners on the house. And, frankly, I attribute my success almost entirely to the way I use social media.

What I do is not complicated. But it is effective.

It’s effective because these days, frankly, it’s really not enough for you as a travel writer or photographer (whether you’re just starting out or have already seen some success) to simply pitch stories and photos to editors or to create your blog posts if you have a blog.

Yes, you need to do those things. And yes, that effort is likely to result in some bylines and maybe even some perks.

But if that’s all you’re doing, you’re going about it the long, hard way. And you’re potentially missing out on a lot of opportunity.

I’m on a mission to prove to you that a smart social media strategy can be super accessible and effective (even for somebody who’s never been on social media before).

When you know how to do it, you can use social media to leap-frog ahead and accelerate your success so that—sooner rather than later—you could find yourself on the receiving end of the sort of perks well-established travel writers can enjoy.

Perks like a free dessert at a restaurant, say… or a complimentary flight of beers at a brewery… an on-the-house ticket to a new museum exhibit… or even a complimentary long-weekend away in the Colorado Rockies.

Tourist Boards for cities and regions, states and countries… all sorts of local attractions… restaurants and bars… they are all in the business of getting the word out about what they have to offer.

And if you can show them that you’re good at spreading the word—then they’ll want to treat you. It’s because you’ll help make their job easier. You’ll help attract visitors to come and see what they’re up to and to spend money with them.

The best, most efficient way to amplify what you’re doing as a travel writer or photographer is to use social media well.

I'd Like to Give You a Straightforward Formula for Success

These organizations and businesses that offer sponsored perks—they love it when you include them in an article. But they really love it when, in addition, you share your positive experiences with the world in real time. They want you to show “real world” photos and offer up your authentic reactions.

Right now—in this crazy climate—they want to show the public that what they’re offering is open, it’s safe. And while you can say that in an article in a magazine—it takes some time for articles to appear in print. By offering social media, you’re providing an immediate return for the folks who sponsor you.

These days, so many travelers get their travel intelligence from social media. And many engage with publications on social media, too. So it’s not only tourist boards and the like who favor social media—editors love it, too. They want you to share the stories you write on these platforms.

And the more savvy you are in the way you do this, the more valuable you make yourself to those editors.

This is the sort of stuff that can help separate you from the Average Joe. And while it might sound intimidating—or even confusing—to you right now, let me assure you: It’s really not complicated at all. Not when you know what you’re doing.

I’d like to show you.

I’ve developed a simple, step-by-step social media formula specifically designed for travel writers and photographers that—

  • You can put in place quickly (you can do it in a single day).
  • Is fun and simple to implement and maintain.
  • And really works—even if the only attention you ever give it is 30 minutes a day (and some days you do nothing at all).

Over one power-packed day this fall, I’d like to share my formula with you…

Please Join Me for a 1-Day Online Social Media Quick-Start Workshop

(Exactly What You Need to Know—Not More, Not Less)

This November 14, 2020—I’d like to show you how it works at my first-ever online Social Media Quick-Start Workshop.

In one day flat, I’ll give you everything you need to know to be up-and-running on social media and hand you my simple, step-by-step formula designed to make it work well for you.

To be clear: I’m not going to tell you everything there is to know about social media. I’m going to hand you the specific tools you need and show you how to wield them effectively. After all: You don’t need to know everything. You need to know what works.

When you understand what to do, it’s not complicated to use social media to set yourself apart from all the other people out there competing for the same story slots in magazines and the same press-trip opportunities offered up by tourism PR folks.

Through social media—you can gain access to people and to opportunities that you’d never be able to walk right up to in the “regular” way.

Used effectively, social media can put you, immediately, in front of that editor you’d love to write for or sell your photos to. It can allow you greater reach for your blog and connect you instantly with your readers and with folks who are eager to have you write about them.

It can put you in touch with that resort owner or luxury tour provider who would love to have you cover what they have on offer—and invite you to come for free.

It can serve as a powerful introduction to that PR person who’s looking to fill her press trip with just the right mix of people.

Done right, social media effectively allows you to “cut the line” and come out ahead of everybody else calling themselves writers and photographers.

This November 14 at my one-day online Social Media Quick-Start Workshop, I’d like to show you exactly what to do to make Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, in particular, work for you effectively.

No experience necessary.

Savvy Social Media Use Can Help You Land Great Perks

If you’re ready to really accelerate your success as a writer or photographer—to take a giant step forward—this is the single, most powerful way to do it.

It really works.  And you do NOT need to have 10,000 “followers” for the success to kick in. This isn’t about becoming an “influencer.”

With my formula, you can get started from zero. I created this event assuming you know nothing at the outset.

The idea is that you can use what I show you to your advantage to begin promoting the stories you’re researching and writing and the places you’re visiting as a writer or photographer—even if you don’t have a single “follower.”

And—if you’re doing what I show you how to do—you can begin to benefit very quickly, within a handful of weeks, or even days.

“There is no better testimonial for a writer than an article whose popularity can be readily seen by editors, as well as audiences who want to be part of a trend, as numbers connected to the ‘tweet’ and ‘like’ buttons.”

Transitions Abroad

Take Jeanine, for example, a relatively new travel writer. She told me, “My Instagram acts as a calling card, really. Once a place sees what I’ve done to profile another, they want me to come and do the same for them. The social media puts you out there and lets you network and market yourself in a really powerful way. Plus it’s fun!”

I, myself, have had many similar experiences.

I often try to stop by breweries when I’m traveling because I write for CraftBeer.com and never know when I’m going to stumble across a story. I’ll share my flights on Instagram as I’m out and about, and that often leads to another brewery in town reaching out through Instagram to invite me to come enjoy a flight on the house.

I was on a girls’ trip to Las Vegas last year and sharing a lot of our activities on social media. I mentioned we were trying out the most creative cocktails we could find in Vegas, and several bars reached out and invited us to come try their creations. I ended up turning that into a story even though that hadn’t been my original plan.

Once, when I was teaching a one-day social media crash course in person (similar to the one I’m hosting online November 14), one of the women in my class—a novice travel writer who had about 100 followers on Instagram—told me she was going out for dinner that night with her husband and daughter to celebrate the daughter’s birthday. I’d talked in the class about effective ways to use social media, and this woman decided to put one of them into practice immediately.

During our lunch break, she found the restaurant on Instagram, commented on one of their posts and mentioned something about how they were excited to come celebrate there that night. The restaurant saw it, looked up her reservation, and when this woman and her family arrived for dinner that night, there was a complimentary bottle of champagne on their table. That’s right—her very first targeted social media post paid her immediately—in bubbly.

My point is: Social media is something you can add into your daily or weekly routine pretty seamlessly, once you know the secrets and tricks to do it efficiently.

  • You DON’T need to devote a lot of time to social media to see good results. I will show you how to set up a system for yourself so you’re in and out in no time—30 minutes or less a day (if you want to invest more time, that’s up to you, but you don’t have to.)
  • You DON’T need great tech skills to use social media well. These platforms are intuitive and once you understand how they work, you can essentially set them on “auto-pilot.” (Various resources exist that can help with this—some free, some with monthly fees of $15-$30.)
  • You DON’T need to have years of successes already under your belt to see good returns on your social media efforts. Even folks brand new to social media can begin to reap benefits quickly.

“In the social media era, where information about travel is readily accessible for many audiences online, both travel writers and publishers are altering the way that they function to succeed in this new environment.”

Science Direct

And social media can be is fun—and you never know what sort of perk your efforts could lead to.

One writer I know told me, for instance, that when she tagged Alaska Airlines and Southwest on social media—just because she was flying them to get somewhere—they gave her free drink coupons and free wi-fi on board.

Social media can open doors for you. And this November 14, I’d like to give you access to the master key you need.

…the key to doors that lead to better-paying assignments at more prestigious publications. Doors that bring you more and better readership. Doors that lead to amazing perks… from all-inclusive vacations to free meals to access you just wouldn’t get any other way.

This November, I’d like to introduce you to the secrets that can make social media work for you quickly and easily to help you become a more accomplished writer or photographer, to help you grow into that writer or photographer who’s recognized in the field and sought after.

All you need is a clear understanding of how the platforms work and the specific ways you can use them to maximum effect.

That’s what I show you in my Social Media Quick-Start Workshop.

The Clear, Step-by-Step Guidance You Need

I designed this power-packed 1-day event to shave weeks (if not months or years) off your learning curve.

You may be only vaguely familiar with social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest. Maybe you’ve heard of them or maybe you even use them for staying connected with friends and family and co-workers. (Or maybe you’re not on social media at all.)

Whatever your level of comfort with these platforms is fine. Because I’m going to hand you the step-by-step formula you need to use them like a pro.

It’s all about focus. It’s about understanding how to get the most bang for your buck on them—and then doing exactly that.

I’ll show you—

  • How, step-by-clear-step, you set up your account on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. (In fact, I’m going to show you how to do this BEFORE our 1-day event so that we can hit the ground running on November 14.)
  • The mechanics of how to post on various social media sites and—perhaps more importantly—what to post, when to post, and how often to post.
  • We’ll talk about how to use Instagram to position yourself as a travel writer.
  • Effective strategies for using social media to get your articles, photos, or blog in front of a bigger audience and, even more importantly, a more engaged audience.
  • How to use Twitter to grow your following—including guidelines and tips for how to tweet, what to tweet, and when to tweet.
  • How to leverage your social media presence to land bigger and better perks and freebies.
  • Going beyond friends and family—how to use Facebook to drive traffic and engagement for yourself and for the entities that can offer you perks and pay you for stories.
  • Useful tools to help you be more effective and efficient on social media—and the best ways to use them. These resources range from free to between $15 and $30 a month—and we’ll talk about how to know what would be worth your while.
  • How to stay in charge of your own social media—with confidence—so you don’t become overwhelmed and instead find it useful, invigorating, and fun.
  • Not all content is created equal, so I’ll talk about what sort of content you should be posting, how to know what to post when, what sorts of posts are better in certain situations, and more…
  • Smart strategies for posting before, during, and after a trip—and even when you’re at home. Several important strategies can help you lay the groundwork before you
  • And lots, lots more…

Plenty of Interactive Sessions
So You’ll Get All Your Questions Answered

Throughout the day on November 14, I’ve built in plenty of time for live question-and-answer sessions.

I know a lot of what I say will be new to you… so I want to be sure you’re getting the hang of it.

I’ll teach a “lesson,”—and then we’ll open up the floor for your comments and queries. And we’ll do that throughout the day so as we go along there’s ample opportunity for you to make sure you understand what you need to do.

I really am committed to giving you the attention you need so that you can—in one day—get yourself launched (in the right direction) on social media.

You can show up having no idea what to do—and by the end of the day, you’ll have a solid plan in place and understand exactly how you can make social media work for you (and then do it in about 30 minutes a day).

Eliminate the Trial-and-Error
—I’ll “Hold Your Hand”

What makes this program powerful is that it’s designed to eliminate the trial-and-error you’d likely run through if you were to tackle this on your own.

When I say I walk you through everything you need to know, step-by-step, I’m not exaggerating.

This program is designed to provide you personalized hand-holding.

I understand that what you need to get started might not be what the next guy needs. So I’ll make sure to meet you where you are and get you on the right track.

For starters…

BEFORE the event actually gets started, I’m going to make sure that you’re properly set up on the social media platforms we’re going to focus on during the day on November 14: Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

I’ll send you a series of how-to videos I’m creating that will walk you through exactly how you set up your accounts. And then I’ll be available to answer any questions should you hit a snag or not understand something.

I just want to make sure you are set up and ready to go so we can hit the ground running on November 14. And I’ll give you all the help you need to ensure that’s the case.

Ongoing Help and Guidance Well After November 14

Next, I’ll invite you to join a Private Facebook Group where we can chat and you can “meet” and network with your fellow attendees.

There I’ll be able to weigh in if something isn’t clear or you get stuck.

“Love it or hate it, social media is essential. [Tourist boards] want to see that you’re active on social media. Some will look for a magic number of followers, especially for Instagram-focused press trips, but in general…they just want to see you being engaged.”

Matador Network

This will prove a useful ongoing resource for you.

I’m not just going to show up on November 14, do a “brain dump” and disappear. I’ll be available in an ongoing way through this group well after the workshop comes to a close to answer questions, cheer you on, share new tips and updates, and more.

I’ll make sure you’re always plugged in to what’s happening on these social media platforms and know what you should be doing to take best advantage of them at any moment in time.

And that’s not all.

A week after the workshop takes place—on November 20—I’ll host a follow-up Zoom call for attendees so you can dial in with the rest of the group—and me—and I can answer your questions, clarify any confusion, offer guidance. (We’ll record this in case you can’t make it.)

I’m going to give you some “marching orders” at the end of the workshop on November 14—things I want you to put into practice in the week after—and so we can talk about them on our follow-up call and find out how they’re working for people.

My point is: I’ll be there for you!

The Value Is Clear

For an intensive workshop like this one—with so much targeted guidance and with ongoing follow-up and support—we could easily justify charging as much as $500.

After all, you come in not knowing anything about how to amplify your reach as a travel writer or photographer by strategically using Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter—and you leave at the end of the day with a highly effective formula in hand. And then I’ll be there to guide you as you begin to put what you learn into practice.

And the guidance I share really works. Here’s what just a few of the folks I’ve helped recently have to say:

“I’ve made some good contacts and picked up about 20 followers in 3 days after changing my Instagram [in the way Kristi recommended].” – B.W.

“[Kristi’s guidance is] absolutely working for me. Got my first unsolicited request to host me. My followers have gone up a great deal… the only thing I’m doing differently is social media—implementing her suggestions.” – K.C.

“I use social media to drive traffic to my blog… Kristi’s suggestions have helped me get greater engagement and followers which increases my traffic.” – T.W.

“I went from 0 to 11 to 59 to 82 followers in just a few days.” – D.H.

Special Bonus # 1
VIDEO ADD-ON: How—and When—to Use Pinterest

This whole program is focused around getting you a quick start. And so that’s why I recommend you focus first on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. And we'll talk during the workshop about which one (or ones) will make the most sense for you, considering your personal situation. And I’ll help you sort through the best places to concentrate your time and energy.

But Pinterest is yet another social media platform you should know about. It’s pretty much never the first one a writer or photographer should start with. But—in some situations—it makes very good sense to attend to.

So in this special add-on video presentation I’ve created, How—and When—to Use Pinterest, I’ll talk to you about how Pinterest works, when it makes sense to use, how to use it, how it differs from the other platforms, and what you need to know to make sure you maximize its power should you decide to weigh in.

This video add-on is yours, FREE, when you register today to attend my Social Media Quick-Start Workshop.

And that’s not all…

Special Bonus # 2
Recorded Access to the Full Workshop

We’re going to record this workshop, too—and as an attendee, you’ll have full access to the recording of this event forever.

That’s included at no charge.

I know that this program is going to feel jam-packed to you—because it will be jam-packed. I have a lot of guidance and insights and tips to share.

And sometimes that can feel overwhelming. So rest assured, in addition to all the ongoing help and support you’ll get as an attendee, you’ll also be able to go back and watch all the presentations, too, any time you want.

This way, if you need to get up during the day, it’s fine. If you miss a session, you can simply watch it later. We’ll archive the workshop at the end of the day, and you’ll be able to login later and sit through the whole program again if you choose to!

I said it before: Social media—used right—is arguably the sharpest, most effective tool you have in your toolbelt today when it comes to landing the benefits and perks that can make this lifestyle extra fun.

These days—to be perfectly honest—you’re EXPECTED to be on social media. And if you’re not, you will miss out on opportunities for travel and perks. That’s the long and short of it.

But there’s good news: You can begin to reap the benefits of savvy social media use almost immediately—you just have to get started.

I hope you’ll join me November 14 and get the inside scoop on how it works.

Within a few weeks—even a few days—you may be pleasantly surprised that some organization or place you tagged and wrote about reaches out to you to offer you something. It might be an invitation to let them know when you’re back in town so they can help you arrange your trip. It might be an invitation to come back to a restaurant where you enjoyed an evening out and have a dinner on the house next time.

I’ll say it once again: When you use social media well—and it’s not complicated to do so—you can gain access to people and to opportunities that you might never find any other way.

During my Social Media Quick-Start Workshop November 14, I’ll show you how to do it right. It’s not hard. It’s not complicated. And it does not need to be a massive time suck. You could put in less than half an hour a day and do this. (Of course if you want to do more, you can.)

When you put the strategy I show you in place—creating your social media presence won’t only be effective, but it’ll be fun, too.

I hope you’ll take me up on this special offer to register at a discount today. Space is limited, and this is the only program like this I’m hosting this year.
